Have you wondered why some businesses websites do exceedingly well in search results and seem to show up in just about every relevant search results while others just don’t seem to pack the same punch even after the best SEO expert has made his recommendations? Content!
A lot of business websites lack the volume of updated dynamic content on their websites which is such an important necessity for ranking well in search engine results. This is an area which is easily ignored while designing and developing business websites and even now, many still make the mistake of building a 5-10 page website and then spending a load on optimizing it for better ranking in searches.
Imagine throwing 5 sheets of paper in a bin with 80,000 other sheets of similar paper and then searching through the bin to find a single one of your 5 sheets. What are your odds? Now imagine throwing 500 sheets in a bin of 80,000 other sheets. The odds are better right? That’s very comparable to what happens in search engine terms to business website. The more content pages you can get indexed with the search engine, the better the odds of others finding you while searching and coming across your business website. This also why business websites which have a lot of dynamic content being regularly added and updated on their website do so much better in searches. Even if your basic website is just 5-10 pages and covers your core information, it’s good to add a certain catalyst to your website which automatically helps you build a greater volume of user generated content around your site. That catalyst is a social media software platform.
Taking a simple 10 page business site and then turbo charging it with social media features such as blogs, Wiki s, forums, groups, photo sharing, file sharing and more creates a platform to build content. Whether its internal employees of the business or throwing it open to customers and others online, they will become instrumental in building daily content which builds around the website. Content need not consist of structured pages and blog articles. Even Twitter like messages or a discussion in an online group adds to content and adds to the content that search engines eventually index. It’s the activity which creates content which in turns builds a more powerful business website which will be easier to find. If you need more user content to rev your website, you may want to go the social media way.
